That's just a footnote, btw. I'm deliberately putting a lot of "me, me, me" into my responses to exhibit that the nature of my beliefs are self-affirmed, and I don't want to cram any of it down any unwilling throats. But I think that mutual respect has long been established with all of us here.

To an extent, I believe in it. I do not believe that mr. edwards and his ilk are psychic. But I do think that some ability does exist in most people in varying degrees. We've all had moments of deja vu, and I'm sure that most, if not all of us have had dreams that have actually happened. I've had a few of those myself.

I think in a way, it's just like anything else. Some people are more sensitive to heat or light or cold or loud noises than others may be. I believe that some people just pick up on things more than others do..their sixth sense, if you will, is a bit sharper than usual.

And of course there are people who claim to be psychic for personal gain. After I broke up with him, my ex boyfriend attempted to manipulate me into keeping him in my life by claiming that he was here to be my savior/protector of sorts, and if I cut off our friendship, I would die young..specifically by my father's hand, after the death of my mother. He knew this because he had "seen" it in some sort of psychic vision.

Naturally I didn't buy his story, and was outraged that he would dare to pull such a low trick. my mother has been very ill my entire life, and yes, she has a fatal illness. Playing on my fear of losing her is a horribly rotten thing to do..and informing me that the cause of my death would be my own father is pretty damned awful too.

He also claimed that my current boyfriend Adam is "evil", and will do me great harm in life..this premonition conveniently came about right before I got together with Adam...doubtlessly an attempt to scare me from getting into a relationship. That one failed too, of course.

The first episode of Penn and Teller's Bullshit on Showtime (first season now available on DVD) debunked "psychics" - John Edwards in particular.

It's a PARLOR GAME. It's called "cold reading," and many swindlers have a very good gift of it. When it is amazingly close in predictions, it's usually a "hot reading," meaning the "psychic" has prior knowledge of the subject, usually through his staff, who get to know the guests, and also who have microphones in the Green Room, so they hear why the people are there, etc.

Now, not saying psychic powers aren't real or don't exist... I just have yet to see someone prove to me that they actually have said powers. As far as telepathy and telekenisis... James Randi, who also heads the publication The Skeptical Enquirer, and a former magician, has a running offer for $1 million to anyone who can PROVE in a controlled scientific environment that they have telekenisis, ESP, or psychic ability. The offer has been running for over 20 years now... and no one has banked it yet. He has debunked Yuri Geller, etc.
